Dubai: The Lulu Group International of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced the establishment of a food processing center in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. Various agricultural products will be brought from all over Jammu and Kashmir to this center. Then they will be processed. This announcement was made by Lulu Group President Yusufali MA on Thursday.

The UAE India Food Security Summit 2000 is going on in Dubai. A delegation of officials from Jammu and Kashmir has gone to participate in it. It is headed by Naveen Kumar Chaudhary, Principal Secretary (Agriculture Production and Horticulture), Jammu and Kashmir. During the meeting with this delegation, Yusufali announced to start a food processing center in Jammu and Kashmir.

Yusufali said, “As per the commitment made during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to UAE in 2019, the Lulu group is going to focus on sourcing a wide range of agricultural products from Jammu and Kashmir.” Imports of apples and saffron are expected to increase significantly in the coming years. According to an official statement, despite several challenges in recent times due to Corona virus epidemic, the group has so far imported more than 400 tonnes of Kashmiri apples.

Yusufali said that the Lulu group is one of the major importers of food and non-food products from India. The establishment of a new center will increase the export of Kashmiri products to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and other countries. The GCC is an organization of six Arab countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain.

Chaudhary said that the results of the meeting were much better and several decisions were taken to promote the export of agricultural and horticultural products from the Union Territory to the entire Gulf region using the Lulu Group stores.
